It is said that "Kumamoto ramen" was invented in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, which is the place of origin of tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen. Passing through Tamana city, it was then introduced to the surrounding areas of Kumamoto city and developed into its own unique ramen. Its distinct features include thick noodles, marr oil (from fried garlic) and fried garlic. Fried garlic helps in whetting one's appetite and complements the thick noodles well, ensuring a satisfying meal.
